Regatta, H1 still watching water level, waiting for opportunity to go racing
Madison Regatta and H1 Unlimited officials are keeping a close eye on the Ohio River in hopes that they can go racing this weekend.

High-water conditions on the river already canceled all on-water activity Friday for this weekend's 63rd Indiana Governor's Cup, and racing today and Sunday are also threatened.

Early Saturday, H1 Unlimited Chairman Sam Cole noted that conditions had not improved overnight and more rain had fallen, but added, "We will continue to monitor conditions hourly and let the fans know if we see any change that would give us an opportunity to use the river."

High water forces Regatta to cancel Friday
A rising Ohio River prompted Madison Regatta officials to cancel all on-water activity on Friday for this weekend's Indiana Governor's Cup, the Regatta announced on Tuesday.

The Ohio River at Markland Dam was measured at 25.47 feet as of 10:45 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service, a drop of nearly a foot since 5 p.m. earlier in the day.

10 U-Boats expected for 63rd running of Gov. Cup
A total of 10 Unlimited hydroplanes are expected for the 63rd running of the Indiana Governor's Cup in next month's Madison Regatta.

Madison Regatta Race Chairman Pat Brooks confirmed on Wednesday what H1 Unlimited announced last week that the same 10 boats that competed in Sacramento, Calif., two weeks ago will be in Madison on Fourth of July weekend to run the Governor's Cup.

"It looks like there will be 10 and I doubt that there will be any surprises," Brooks said. "We're planning on 10."

Former Bengal to be Regatta grand marshal
Elbert "Ickey" Woods, a former running back for the Cincinnati Bengals, will serve as the grand marshal for this year's Madison Regatta parade, the organization announced Thursday.

The one-time pro-bowler most famous for his touchdown dance, the "Ickey Shuffle," played for the Bengals from 1988 to 1991.
